Moving into 2022, Avon Energy recognises that we are one year closer to the 2030 target (reduce emissions by 57% compared to 1990 levels) which is a key milestone if the UK is to meet future carbon budgets and the Net Zero by 2050 target. As we move closer to the 2030 targets and the further 2050 targets, the importance (and the challenges!) of our work is highlighted.
Here at Avon Energy, we've been hard at work focusing on all areas of our business during 2021. We have continued to develop Net Zero strategies for clients and have helped clients reach carbon neutral through multiple and varied offsets projects. Alongside this we have been developing E-learning climate courses and carbon literacy masterclasses as well as growing our team and social media presence.
So lets take a look at some of the metrics of the past year:
We've made real progress through 2021 and we are excited to hit the ground running in 2022 with a number of new projects on the horizon.

But how have our global carbon emissions been?
The Global Carbon Project (GCP) estimated that global emissions in 2021 will reach 36.4bn tonnes of CO2 (GtCO2), only 0.8% below their pre-pandemic high of 36.7GtCO2 in 2019.
A rebound in 2021 was expected as the global economy bounced back from Covid-19, however it was bigger than expected.
The research also suggests that global CO2 emissions have been flat for a decade.
This is encouraging research, however, with the fast-approaching 2030 targets it is vital to double down the efforts to reduce global emissions. This is key in reaching Net Zero emissions globally by 2050 and to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius.
So that's Avon's 'New Year's resolution' if you will…to double down.
